HARRISBURG – The House Transportation Committee has unanimously approved a pair of bills authored by State Rep. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield/Cambria) that would honor two notable Clearfield County citizens.
Both pieces of legislation may now be considered by the full House.
“I’d like to thank the committee members for their support of these bills, which will serve as a fitting tribute to two outstanding men,” Sankey said.
The committee passed the following bills:
- House Bill 817 – Would rename the State Route 3005 bridge in Greenwood Township, Clearfield County, which crosses the west branch of the Susquehanna River as the First Lt. Wendell Elbert Ross Memorial Bridge. Ross, a native of Lumber City, was fatally wounded in 1944 while serving our country during World War II as a member of Company B, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.
- House Bill 870 – Would designate Route 153 in Boggs Township, Clearfield County, as the Austin M. Harrier Memorial Highway. Harrier served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1962-74, representing the 74th Legislative District. He was instrumental in securing funding for the construction of state Route 153.
