CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library would like to invite the community to join the annual collaborative Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme, “Every Hero Has a Story!,” will invite area residents to enjoy their greatest superpower, the power to read.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins June 8 and is open to all ages, – pre-school through adult – with exciting performers, guest presenters, special event programs and an array of activities throughout June and July.
Interested members of the community can join the program from home by visiting the library during the summer and filling out the registration form. Anyone with questions is encouraged to call or stop by the library during regular business hours. A full schedule of summer activities and programs will be available at registration.
Children learn best when their learning is not interrupted and summer vacation is a long interruption, said library officials. Library officials added that without practice, children forget facts and important “how to” skills. The Shaw Public Library’s Summer Library Program helps children’s minds stay active by bridging the gap between school years and helps to avoid the summer slide.
Nurturing a more literate society is one of five literacies in PA Forward, an initiative of the Pennsylvania Library Association. Research shows that a child’s library use raises his or her fourth grade assessment scores. “Help us to spark learning in all of our children this summer by supporting and participating in the Summer Library Program,” said library officials. Shaw Public Library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Fridays from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
