CLEARFIELD – As part of the Click It or Ticket mobilization, PennDOT, its Buckle Up PA program, the National Highway Traffic Administration and local law enforcement agencies in Clearfield County on Monday held a media event to kick off the Border-to-Border seatbelt enforcement operation as part of the national Click it or Ticket Mobilization which runs from May 18-31.
To increase safety on Pennsylvania’s roadways, state and municipal police will conduct Traffic Enforcement zones, traffic safety checkpoints and roving patrols to target nighttime drivers.
The enforcement started with a concentrated patrol Monday at 6 p.m. Local agencies participating in this initiative include the Clearfield Borough and the Lawrence Township police departments.
The operation includes 316 Pennsylvania law enforcement agencies in an effort to show drivers and passengers that drivers and passengers driving or riding without a seatbelt will result in a ticket, no matter the state.
Last year, the Border-to-Border mobilization saw participation from 305 Pennsylvania municipal law enforcement agencies during the four-hour operation.
A total of 372 citations were issued for seatbelt violations as well as 32 child safety seat violations. An additional 3,397citations were also issued for other traffic infractions.
The effort supplements major enforcement mobilizations in May, as well as the Thanksgiving holiday during which PennDOT distributes $1.7 million statewide in federal enforcement funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
