HARRISBURG – Victims of crime and violence can find helpful resources through a new Web site designed by crime victims, their family members and loved ones, the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, or PCCD, said today.
Launched today, the new Web site provides information about the criminal and juvenile justice system, rights and services available to crime victims, as well as information on trauma, healing and more.
“This Web site was created to help those whose lives have been forever changed by violence and crime,” said Lynn Shiner, deputy director of PCCD’s Office of Victims’ Services. “Crime may impact the victim and their family’s physical, mental, financial and spiritual well-being. Information is power. The primary focus of this Web site is to let crime victims know they are not alone and help is available.”
Site visitors can find information on the Victims’ Compensation Assistance Program, restitution, services available at the county level and PA SAVIN, the statewide victim information and notification system. The Web site also includes information and resources from the Office of Victim Advocate, including where to find a victim service provider in a particular county.
Shiner said the site, including its content and format, was developed with input from crime victims, victim service providers, and victim advocates.
PCCD works to prevent and reduce crime and respond to the needs of victims. PCCD collaborates with state and local agencies and officials, victim service providers, juvenile and criminal justice agencies, community-based organizations and others to achieve those goals.
