CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announces that work will get under way Monday to replace a bridge on Route 2023 in Knox Township, Clearfield County.
The bridge spans Little Clearfield Creek in the village of O’Shanter and will be replaced by a single-span, steel beam structure.
The current bridge was built in 1937 and carries an average of almost 500 vehicles daily. Replacing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list.
On Monday, the portion of Route 2023 southbound on Turkey Hill Road will be closed and a detour will be in place.
PennDOT’s official detour will direct southbound traffic from Turkey Hill Road/SR 2023 to O’Shanter Road/SR 2022 to Olanta Road/SR 453 to SR 2012 and back to Turkey Hill Road/SR 2023.
Overall work will include removal of the existing bridge, construction of the new bridge, new approaches, paving and guiderail updates. All work is weather and schedule dependent. The new bridge is expected to be complete by late October.
Clearwater Construction Inc. of Mercer is the contractor on this $1.7 million project. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, use caution in and around work zones and always buckle up.
