CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), is offering area individuals aged 50 years and older the opportunity to take the AARP Driver Safety Course.
For the convenience of county residents, an original and two refresher courses will be held at two county Centers for Active Living – Clearfield and Kylertown.
The classroom course was developed by AARP to help drivers remain safe on today’s roads while providing the bonus of a three-year discount on the course graduates’ car insurance.
All automobile insurance companies conducting business in Pennsylvania are required to provide a premium discount to graduates of the Driver Safety Program who are 55 years of age and older.
Couples who both have a driver’s license are each required to be certified in the program in order to be eligible for the discount. Anyone completing the original class at least three years prior is eligible to be recertified by taking the refresher course.
AARP membership is not a requirement of taking the courses.
The first Refresher Course will be held at the Kylertown Center for Active Living on May 19, from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. The center is located at 70 Senior Dr., Kylertown, and the second refresher course at Clearfield Center for Active Living on June 1, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
The original, eight-hour class will be given at the Clearfield Center for Active Living in two sessions: Monday and Tuesday, June 8-9 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
The Clearfield Center is located at 116 S. Second St. in Clearfield. The cost for each course for non-AARP members is $20, while AARP members pay a discounted price of $15. Checks are to be made payable to AARP and are to be given to the instructor on the first day of class.
Class size is limited and the required registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, so early sign-up is suggested. You may register by contacting Cathie Hugar at the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging at 814-765-2696 or 1-800-225-8571.
Information on this and other programs, meals, and activities is available by calling the CCAAA at 814-765-2696 or 1-800-225-8571 or visiting the CCAAA Web site at www.ccaaa.net.
Programs and services of the Agency are funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc., Mature Resources Foundation and local and consumer contributions.
