CLEARFIELD – A DuBois woman accused of threatening people with a Taser pleaded guilty in Clearfield County Court.
Cathy Zeches, 39, 408 W. Washington Ave., DuBois, pleaded guilty to criminal mischief in one case and disorderly conduct in a second case. She was sentenced to two years probation and was fined $500 plus costs.
The original plea agreement required her to plead guilty to a summary harassment charge in the second case, but Judge Paul E. Cherry rejected this and asked her to plead to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge instead.
She must complete a drug/alcohol assessment and pay restitution of $510.
According to the affidavit of probable cause in the first case, the victims were awakened by Zeches, who was standing at the foot of their bed with a Taser pointed towards them. She claimed she was concerned for the one’s safety and had entered the residence after kicking in the front door.
She then walked out and waited for that victim. She said she wanted to give him a ride to work after feeling bad about the damage to the door. She then continued to call and text both of the victims numerous times during the rest of that day.
When she was questioned by police, Zeches admitted to kicking in the door and having her Taser with her at the time. Damage to the door and frame was estimated at $510.
In the second case, according to court documents, on July 29, officers were called to West Long Avenue in response to a report about a woman assaulting a man with a Taser.
Before they arrived the officers were told the victim called to advise them Zeches, who had been chasing him with a Taser, was attempting to get into his residence on Franklin Street. He also stated she may have a knife.
When police arrived they saw Zeches in the back yard. They drew their weapons and ordered her to keep her hands up. She was handcuffed and taken into custody. A Taser was lying next to her in the grass.
The victim told police that she had been following him from 100 N. Main St. to where he was staying. She got angry with him and tased him twice in the chest. He started to run away but she was able to tase him in the back eight or more times. Eventually he arrived at the residence where he ran inside and called 911.
There were multiple red welts on the victim’s back that are consistent with being struck by an electronic incapacitation device.
