If you started thinking about your health after a long winter, Penn Highlands Healthcare is preparing an educational program series to get you back on track as you learn to “Punctuate Your Health!”
Punctuation is used to make the meaning of even the simplest of sentences clearer. Without punctuation, things would all run together.
The Women’s Health Center of Penn Highlands Healthcare is offering four, separate programs now through August that will help make health concepts clearer.
The Punctuate Your Health series was designed to take a broader look at a variety of health topics and provides education and tips for you to keep yourself healthy.
With a trendy punctuation theme, the first program is called MOVE!, and it’s all about exercise to keep your bones healthy.
It will be offered twice:
- In DuBois from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 30, in the Central Resource Center at Penn Highlands DuBois;
- In Brookville from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 8, at the Heritage House.
At both events, Lori Rancik, registered nurse and case manager of the Women’s Health Center of Penn Highlands Healthcare, and Ruth Pifer, physical therapist with The Therapies at Penn Highlands DuBois, will present information.
“MOVE will be a program to help you understand the importance of moving your body to prevent debility from disorders, such as arthritis, osteoporosis and normal aging,” Rancik said.
“It will demonstrate a variety of activities that can be part of your summer time exercise. From bicycling and crochet to beach balls and gardening, there is something for everyone,” Pifer said.
She will discuss proper body mechanics, or how you move your body with good posture, and the importance of stretching and other safety tips so that you remain free of injury and get the most benefit from your movement.
There will be Instruction on how to include all four types of physical activity: endurance, strength, balance and flexibility – into your daily routines.
MOVE! will also provide some simple nutrition tips on foods that can help keep bones strong.
“MOVE will be a program that is fun,” Rancik said. “Throughout the evening, attendees will be encouraged to participate in the simple activities that are planned. Please wear comfortable, free-moving clothing, bring a friend and be ready to MOVE!”
