James Edward Coons, 74, of Clearfield, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Born April 11, 1940, he was the son of Robert E. and Mary Jane (Danver) Coons.
Mr. Coons had first worked for R.D. Goss Inc. of Clearfield as an electrician. He was retired from the Clearfield Area School District as a maintenance supervisor.
He was a member of the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Clearfield. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge 540 Clearfield Elks. He was also a U.S. Army Reserve veteran who served in the 336th Military Police Battalion.
On June 13, 1970 at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, he wed the former Janet McCorkle. She survives along with two children, Dr. James C. Coons and his wife, Stacy of Gibsonia and Amy Beth Potter and her husband, Nathan of Clearfield and four grandchildren, Ava Jane and Jordan Coons and Trent and Cael Potter.
Surviving are three brothers and two sisters, Robert Coons and his wife, Connie, Richard Coons and his wife, Janet and Mary Jane Sherman and her husband, William, all of Curwensville; E. Ann Jury and her husband, Butch of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and John Coons and his wife, Denise of Clearfield.
Also, surviving are three aunts, Helen Taylor, Rosella Duttry and Ruth Ann McCracken and her husband, Clifford, all of Clearfield, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Michael Coons; and two nephews, Justin and Jarrod Sherman.
A private Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church for the family, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant and the Rev. Father John Miller as co-celebrant.
