Fifteen police officers were killed and five were injured when they were ambushed by suspected gang members in Mexico’s Jalisco state, the state attorney general’s office said Tuesday.
The attack, which took place along the Mascota-Las-Palmas highway, happened Monday.
Gunmen opened fire at a state security convoy, which was headed toward the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, killing 15 members of the United Force of Jalisco, the attorney general’s office said.
The state is home to the “Jalisco New Generation” drug cartel.
