John C. Barber, 90, of Clearfield died Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Penn Highlands DuBois.
He was born April 8, 1924 in Clearfield, a son of the late Carmen and Rose (Castagnola) Barba.
Mr. Barber was employed for 42 years at Harbison Walker Refractories, Clearfield, until it closed in 1983. He was Catholic by faith.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II with the European Theatre and the Anti-Aircraft unit.
He was a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6 and the Clearfield Sons of Italy Lodge No. 189. He also loved gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Edith M. (McKee) Barber, whom he wed Sept. 7, 1978; three step-children, Marlene Johnson of Clearfield, Russell A. Shaw of Lancaster, Calif., and Katharine Dove and husband David of Fairfield, Ohio; five step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; a sister, Sara Castagnola of Tyrone; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Barba; two half-brothers, Sam Barba and Santo Barbara; and an infant brother, John.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Military honors will be accorded at cemetery by the members of the Clearfield VFW and American Legion Post Honor Guards.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
