Merico Belella, age 85, of West Long Avenue in DuBois, PA, formerly of Lewisburg, PA died Thursday, February 11, 2010 in DuBois, PA.
He was born on July 29, 1924 in Mahaffey, PA. He was the son of Antonio and Natalina Belella.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He fought on D-Day and in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was married to Mary (Ferencz) Belella. She preceded him in death on April 19, 1983.
He retired from the Department of Justice Federal Prison System in Lewisburg, PA as a Corrections Officer.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 842 in Lewisburg, PA, the American Legion Post 0841 in Lewisburg, PA, and life member of USP Lewisburg Employees Club.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Sandra) Moyle of Mechanicsburg, PA, one brother, Frank Belella of Cherry Tree, PA, numerous nieces and nephews, one special little girl, Ashlynn Johnson of DuBois, PA, one step granddaughter , Pamela Hassinger of Lewistown, PA and two great grandchildren, Chandler and Victoria Hassinger of Lewistown, PA.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Belella and a step grandson, Scott Moyle.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 9 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. from the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
The DuBois Area Honor Guard will conduct a military ritual on Saturday at 10:15 A.M. from the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 11 A.M. from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Father David Foradori as celebrant.
Full military honors will be accorded from the church by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Juniata Memorial Park in Lewistown, PA.
