DUBOIS – DuBois native and nationally known author Kristine Gasbarre has been added to the program for the DuBois Area Historical Society’s ninth annual luncheon for March 14, at 12 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Sunflower Drive, DuBois.
The opportunity to have Gasbarre speak at the luncheon ties in with the theme “Women in the Arts.” She will join a program focusing on three DuBois natives who found success in the arts – specifically in theatre, opera and movies/TV. Current DuBois residents Sharon Folmar, Nikki Cherry and Ashley Simpson-Niger will bring these women to life through their presentation.
Reservations and payment for the luncheon are due by March 9. The cost is $10 and includes soup, salad, sandwich and dessert. Reservations should be sent to DuBois Area Historical Society, P. O. Box 401, DuBois, PA. 15801. For additional information, telephone 814-371-9006 or e-mail duboisareahistory@yahoo.com.
Gasbarre is a graduate of Central Catholic High School in DuBois. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from John Carroll University in Cleveland, and a Master’s degree in public communication and media studies from Fordham University in New York City. She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, where she is a freelance culture, lifestyle and relationship writer for national consumer magazines and popular Web sites.
Her memoir “How to Love an American Man: A True Story,” was published by Harper Collins in August of 2011. The book traces the year Gasbarre spent receiving love advice from her grandma, Gloria, in a way that’s transforming the way women of all ages and relationship statuses are thinking about men . . . and womanhood.
