WESTOVER – The Curwensville Lady Tide basketball team remained unbeaten in Moshannon Valley League (MVL) play and completed the season sweep over Harmony, 46-40, Monday night in Westover. It was the fourth straight win for the Rusty McCracken coached squad.
Curwensville, now 7-0 in MVL play, clinched its second straight Moshannon Valley League championship last week.
It was not an easy win, however, for the Lady Tide, as they trailed the Lady Owls at the half time break 25-22.
The second half, mainly the fourth period, was when Curwensville toughened up to come away with the victory.
The Lady Tide, in a back and forth fourth period, outscored Harmony 16-8, to end up on top of a scrappy Lady Owl squad.
The first time the two teams played, January 22, Harmony also pushed the Lady Tide to needing a big fourth period to earn the win that night, 47-38.
McCracken spoke after this most recent battle, saying, “Harmony played very well tonight and it was a tribute to our girls to come back to get this win. And all road wins are good.”
Senior Ciara Srrickland, once again, paced the Lady Tide offense with 19 points that included three three-pointers. Also contributing heavily with a big double-double for Curwensville was sophomore Christine Limbert with 11 points and 22 rebounds.
Tara Hauser led the Lady Owls with 18 points in the loss.
The junior varsity game, which started the evening’s activities, was won by the Lady Owls in a low scoring contest 19-14 over the young Lady Tide. Nichole Wormuth and Camryn Richards each had four points for Curwensville.
Curwensville (14-6) is on the road to Allport on Wednesday to meet up with the West Branch Lady Warriors, a team the Lady Tide knocked off in Curwensville earlier this season, 58-37. A win would give the Tide a perfect year, at 8-0, in the MVL.
The JV game tips-off at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
