The state of Minnesota has stopped accepting electronic filings by taxpayers using the popular TurboTax software, because of what it says are fraud problems that have been detected with filings.
“Some Minnesota taxpayers have recently found that when they log in to TurboTax to file their tax return, they see that a return has already been filed,” said the state. The state says there has not been a breach of Department of Revenue computer systems, and that it is still accepting filings from tax preparers using professional versions of the Intuit software.
Media reports in Minnesota say that the state is in contact with other states about possible problems elsewhere.
Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, was not immediately available for comment Friday, but Minnesota said the company is setting up a dedicated phone number for impacted taxpayers starting at 8 a.m. CT Friday. The number is 1-800-944-8596.
