ST. MARYS – The first meeting for the Elk County Democratic Committee will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Knights of Columbus, 3 Washington St., St. Marys.
This year will play host to the election of numerous municipal, county-wide and school board positions.  The committee is actively seeking individuals looking to make a positive change in their communities by getting involved and running for public office.
The primary purpose of this meeting will be to allow interested candidates the opportunity to introduce themselves to the committee members and others in attendance.   Various committee resources to assist candidates will also be a topic for discussion.  Committee meetings are open to any registered Democrat from Elk County.
In St. Marys, three city council positions will be on the ballot this year. Ridgway and Johnsonburg Borough also have three borough council positions open each.  St. Marys Area, Ridgway Area and Johnsonburg Area School Districts also have five school board positions open.
In addition, all townships in the county will have at least one supervisor and one auditor position open.   At the county level, all three commissioners, three auditors, sheriff, treasurer, register and recorder, prothonotary and coroner will be up for election this year.
Nomination petition signing for the May Primary starts Feb. 17Â and runs through March 10.
