CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough police have initiated an investigation into a hit-and-run accident that occurred at 10 p.m. Dec. 20.
According to police, a red Chevrolet Silverado, which is owned by Chad and Lisa Lawhead of Clearfield, was traveling northbound on South Second Street. It crossed the center turning lane and the opposing southbound lane, striking the curb and guardrails near Witmer Street.
The Lawhead vehicle sustained major damage as a result of the accident. Upon impact the operator continued northbound and stopped in a private parking lot near 302 S. Second St. At that time, the operator exited the vehicle and fled on foot, police said.
Upon arrival police searched the area but were unable to locate the operator. Police noted that the vehicle was also involved in a previous accident under investigation by Lawrence Township police that occurred in front of McDonalds along South Second Street.
Police made contact with the owner of the vehicle who denied operating it at the time of the accident. Police have spoken to witnesses at the accident scenes and they were able to identify the operator.
Clearfield Borough and Lawrence Township police are continuing their investigation and asking any witnesses to contact them with information about the accidents.
