CLEARFIELD – Work to rehabilitate a bridge in Houtzdale will come to an end next week as PennDOT opens it to traffic and lifts the detour.
Crews have been working since Aug. 18 to rehabilitate the state-owned bridge, which spans Beaver Run on Ida Street in Houtzdale—just southwest of Route 53.
Rehabilitation work will keep the bridge in service for years to come and allow PennDOT to remove it from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list. Rehabilitation work will also allow PennDOT to remove the weight postings of 28 tons for single vehicles and 39 tons for combination vehicles.
PennDOT expects the bridge to open the week of Nov. 10, as soon as work progress allows. Once the bridge is open to traffic, PennDOT will lift the half-mile detour that made use of Ida Street and Beech Street.
Originally built in 1952, the bridge is 30 feet long and carries and average of 205 vehicles each day.
Overall work has included replacement of the bridge superstructure, approach work, minor drainage improvements and guiderail improvements on Ida Street and Beech Street. The contractor for this $293,000 job has been Wen-Brook Contracting Inc. of Three Springs.
