OSCEOLA MILLS – State Reps. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield) and Scott Conklin (D-Centre) are inviting residents of the 74th and 77th legislative districts to join them for a discussion of the continued rise of drug abuse locally and around the state.
The forum will take place Oct. 29, at 6 p.m., at Gethsemane United Methodist Church, 369 Allport Cutoff, Allport.
“Heroin use will be the focus of the discussion,” Sankey said. “Abuse of it is growing faster than that of any other drug and has been on the rise nationally since 2007. The number of people using the drug for the first time has nearly doubled in the last few years, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.”
Sankey and Conklin and will be joined by representatives from the Office of the Attorney General and local law enforcement, in addition to the Centre and Clearfield County Drug and Alcohol commissions. A drug recognition expert with the Pennsylvania State Police will also be in attendance.
“Heroin is unfortunately inexpensive and easy to buy on the streets, which makes it very accessible to young adults who may not have a lot of money,” added Conklin. “This discussion is an opportunity to shed light on a subject parents need to be aware of, as do all Pennsylvanians.”
There is no admission fee to attend the discussion.
