STATE COLLEGE – A drainage and roadway improvement project will begin Monday along Atherton Street in State College.
Through Nov. 23, area drivers can expect to find lane closures and slowed traffic during work hours. Traffic volumes through this area are heavy and drivers should anticipate travel delays.
All work is weather and schedule dependent. Once work is complete, travel along this section of Atherton Street should be smoother and more efficient.
This year, crews will be working to install radar detection equipment at the Park Avenue, Curtin Road, White Course Drive and College Avenue intersections along Atherton Street. Work hours for this activity will be 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Drivers need to be alert for lane closures and the possibility of flaggers in the intersections.
Patching, milling, repaving and pavement marking work can also be expected along Atherton Street from Park to College avenues. Work from Park Avenue to Curtin Road will take place from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Work from Curtin Road to College Avenue will take place overnight from 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. Flaggers will control traffic through intersections during these operations.
Before Thanksgiving, the project will shut down for the winter months. Work will then resume after April 1, 2015, with completion expected by the end of September.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $4.4 million project.
