Marshall G. Dixon, 89, of Allport died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 at his residence. Born Feb. 25, 1925 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late David Adam and Belle Shimmel Dixon.
Mr. Dixon was a member of the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Philipsburg. He attended the Philipsburg High School. Mr. Dixon was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a tech sergeant in the Combat Engineers.
He was a member of the BPOE No. 1173, Philipsburg. He was a life-long surface coal miner and worked for various local companies. He was also the co-owner of the D&M Coal Trucking Company for 35 years.
He was married to Agnes Slother Dixon on Nov. 15, 1948 in Philipsburg. She preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2005.
Mr. Dixon is survived by one daughter, Bethann M. Dixon of Baltimore, Md., and three sons, John M. Dixon and his wife, Diane and Daniel P. Dixon and his wife, Pamela, all of Allport, and David J. Dixon and his wife, Laurie of York.
He’s survived by two sisters, Clem Harrington and her husband, Jack of Philipsburg and Lila M. Stephens of Sun City, Ariz., and two brothers, Stanley R. Dixon of Cheektowaga, NY and Edward M. Dixon and his wife, Janet of Gearhartville.
He’s also survived by seven grandchildren, John Dixon Jr., David Dixon Jr., Gabriel Dixon, Brittany Dixon, Tiffany Dixon-Bolton, David Amos and Megan Amos and eight great-grandchildren, Ian, Sophia and Adam Dixon, Jacob Coulter, Haylie, Natalie and Mason Amos and Oliver Furrow.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria A. Dixon and Bonnita R. Dixon, and one brother, Claude D. Dixon.
At the request of Mr. Dixon, funeral services will be private with the Deacon Dennis Socash officiating. Burial will be in the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Cemetery, Morrisdale.
There will be no public visitation.
