Detour remains in place
STATE COLLEGE – Work to replace beams on a state-owned bridge in Centre County will continue through mid-September.
Crews have been working since Aug. 18 to replace the beams and PennDOT originally expected to re-open the bridge Sept. 5.
The bridge spans Half Moon Creek on Township Road 966 (Marengo Road) in Ferguson Township, about 3.6 miles south of the village of Centennial.
Originally built in 1908 and reconstructed in 1977, the bridge is 21 feet long and carries more than 430 vehicles each day. Replacement of the beams will keep the bridge in service for years to come.
The detour that uses T-307 (West Gatesburg Road), T-965 (Tadpole Road) and T-966 (Marengo Road) will remain in place until the bridge re-opens. The schedule was pushed to a mid-month re-opening due to its proximity to the location of Penn State’s Ag Progress Days.
PennDOT Centre County Maintenance is performing the beam replacement work. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow detour signs, and always buckle up.
