DUBOIS – Penn Highlands Healthcare recently announced that Karen Hazlett of Shippenville has been added to the system’s business development team as a marketing/ public relations specialist.
Hazlett, who has been the marketing/public relations director at Clarion Hospital for 16 years, will be responsible for marketing assigned service lines within the Penn Highlands Healthcare system. She will also oversee marketing and public relations initiatives, both internally and externally, by working with hospital staff members, as well as media outlets within the market area.
“We are very fortunate to add such an experienced and skilled marketing person to our business development team,” Penn Highlands Chief Executive Officer Raymond Graeca said.
“Karen will be able to use her healthcare experience to assist us in promoting the physicians and services throughout our system. She is a great fit for our system as we continue to expand services and draw in patients from our eight-county service area.”
Hazlett earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, with a concentration in public relations from Clarion University, where she graduated magna cum laude.
At Clarion Hospital, Hazlett was responsible for all marketing and public relations activities for the hospital, its employed physician practices and its affiliates. She also worked with the media for editorial content and placed advertising for the hospital. Her work has won two Aster Awards for excellence in medical marketing.
Prior to her career at Clarion Hospital, she was employed as an advertising representative for Clarion County Broadcasting in Clarion.
She has also been very active in the community, serving on the board of directors of both the Clarion Forest Visiting Nurses Association and the United Way of Clarion County. She has served as the chairperson of the Clarion Area Business Association and is very active in her church as a Sunday school superintendent and Bible school director.
Hazlett will work at all four Penn Highlands hospitals but will serve as the day-to-day public relations contact for both Penn Highlands Brookville and Penn Highlands Elk.
