Michael D. Swope Sr., 67, of Luthersburg died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born Sept. 27, 1946 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Douglas C. and May (Hartzfeld) Swope.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War.
On Sept. 29, 1973, he married Diana L. (Verbka) Swope. She survives.
He was a heavy equipment operator his entire life. He was employed with Rosebud Mining Company.
He was a member of the St. Luke’s United Church of Christ Church in Luthersburg. He enjoyed working outside and being a jokester. Most of all, he loved being with his wife and best friend, Diana and their children and grandchildren.
He’s survived by his son, Michael D. Swope Jr. and his wife, Wendy of DuBois; a daughter, Rebecca S. Bentley and her husband, Kevin of Chesapeake, Va.; and a step-daughter, Melissa L. Miller of Reynoldsville; a sister, Nancy Graham and her husband, Guy of Clearfield; a brother, Delno Swope and his wife, Sandy of Luthersburg; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Harley Schuckers and a brother, Rodney Swope.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Wednesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A private funeral service will be held from the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Luke’s United Church of Christ Cemetery.
