Violet M. smith, 78, of Morrisdale died Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at UPMC Altoona. Born June 28, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Thelma Cole Verbeck.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a life-time member of the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club, Frenchville. She loved playing bingo and yahtzee.
She was married to Thomas Whitton; he preceded her in death on April 18, 2008.
Mrs. Smith was survived by a son, William “Bill” Blake Verbeck of Morrisdale and a step-son, Harvey Lee Whitton of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; a step-grandson, John A. Whitton of Tennessee; and one step-great-grandson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, James, Willard “Bill,” Frank, Edward and Norman and one sister, Dorothy Verbeck Whitton. Mrs. Smith was the last member of her generation.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale, with the Pastor Earl Shawley officiating. Burial will be in the Keewaydin Cemetery, Karthaus.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
