CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library’s “Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program begins June 16 at 10:30 a.m. with a thrilling magic show by M&M Magic.
The “Magic of Science” kick-off event is sponsored by the Clearfield Branch of Northwest Savings Bank. It will feature Bobby and Danny Mehok, two brothers from the DuBois area.
According to their Web site, the duo is an “awesome magical team that’s going to excite your senses and make you gasp in awe. Combining comedy, electrifying music, and illusions, they hit the stage running and the fun never stops!” Youth of all ages are encouraged to attend this event.
For those participants who have already registered online for the “Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program, the kick-off event is the first opportunity to pick up their registration packet. Each packet includes a brochure of activities and events scheduled throughout the summer.
All registered participants who pick up their summer reading packets between June 16 and June 21 can register to win a kick-off week prize.
On June 16, participants can begin logging books and minutes in order to earn prize incentives. Super Stars are earned through reading and program attendance.
This year, Shaw Public Library will offer a weekly prize from one of the many sponsors of the youth programs. Super Stars earned during the week may be submitted for a chance to win that week’s prize. Any unused Super Stars can be exchanged when the Laboratory summer reading store opens on July 7.
The PA Forward initiative supports the efforts of libraries across the state as leaders in community education. Throughout the “Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program, children will experience at least one of the five literacies as part of the PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries initiative.
The summer reading program is open to all youth ages birth through the completion of fifth grade and all young adults who have completed sixth grade through 11th grade.
In addition, adults and recent high school graduates may join the adult program.
Registration is available online at Shaw Public Library’s Web site. Participants may continue to register for the summer reading program online throughout the summer and visit the library to pick up their registration packet.
Patrons without access to the Internet or with concerns about the online registration process may come to the library during normal business hours to receive assistance.
Shaw Public Library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Fridays from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.
