RIDGWAY – Dale Fox will present a special public program from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. April 1 at the St. Leo Magnus Church social hall in Ridgway. Fox will speak about the diversity and history of the early Christian churches of Turkey.
She will share a presentation of photographs from famous churches she has visited that were built between 327 A.D. and 1453 A.D. These churches demonstrate diverse styles, ranging from the simple to the sublime. The artwork inside these early houses of worship, which portrays the story of the life of Christ at a time when most people could not read, is visually stunning, spine-tingling, action packed, and emotionally riveting.
Fox is a professional speaker and a University Scholar with the University of Pittsburgh, and has a special focus on Near and Middle Eastern history. Upon retiring from her 30-year career in information technology in 2009, she chose to become a volunteer English teacher in Turkey living with Turkish families.
She returns every year to travel solo throughout the country – from the Black Sea to the Aegean, down to the Kurdish territory of southeast Turkey at the border of Syria, Iraq and Iran, and from the great cosmopolitan city of Istanbul to remote country villages harking back thousands of years.
Fox has unbelievable stories to tell, which she has masterfully accomplished with her book “Turkey Uncovered,” with limited signed copies available at the event. Refreshments will be provided by the Catholic Daughters of America.
