Walter J. “Ike” Gillis, 99 of DuBois died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Born July 17, 1914, he was the son of the late Martin and Sophia (Isban) Gillis.
He married Pauline (Kaplavka) Gillis. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2007.
He retired from Rockwell International Manufacturing in DuBois after 32 years of service.
He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Friendship Hose Company No. 2.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Margaret Walk, Mary Alphonso, Elizabeth Sigety, Helen Nesbitt and Bernice Caruso and four brothers, Leo, Martin Jr., Joseph and Paul Gillis.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Kresinski as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.
Memorials may be placed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
