Gary J. Masaglia, 53, of Philipsburg died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at his residence. Born Jan. 20, 1961, he was the son of the late Carlo J. and Pauline Lucas Masaglia.
Mr. Masaglia was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, State College. He was an associate member of the State College Presbyterian Church. He was an administrator for the Bald Eagle Area School District.
He was a 1979 graduate of the West Branch High School. He graduated from Lock Haven University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and again in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned his Master’s degree in education at Clarion University, his principal’s certificate from Duquesne University and his letter of superintendent eligibility from Edinboro University.
Mr. Masaglia taught for 14 years at the Elk County Christian School. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Elementary & Secondary Principal Association and the National Association of School Curriculum Development.
He was a fourth degree member of the Holy Family Council No. 8701, Knights of Columbus, Morrisdale. He was a life member of the Reliance Fire Company.
He married Tracy Kay Dunkle Masaglia on Oct. 23, 1999 at the Church of Nazarene, Philipsburg. She survives in Philipsburg. He’s also survived by a mother-in-law, Edna Dunkle of Milesburg and a beloved furry friend, Domanic.
Mr. Masaglia was the last member of his generation.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the State College Presbyterian Church with the Pastor Dean Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale.
