NEW OXFORD — The Clearfield Area High School wrestling team headed to New Oxford High School for the hosts’ annual tournament that included 29 teams this year. The Bison scored 87.5 points to place near the middle of the pack in 13th place. Boiling Springs, with 196.5 points, was the team champion; while the runner-up was Philipsburg-Osceola with 175.5 points. The Bison face P-O on February 4 in Philipsburg.
The Bison had four wrestlers reach the medal round, with three winning their final bout.
The top Bison place-winner was 126 pound junior Noah Cline, who went 4-1 over the weekend to place third. His only loss was to the eventual champion, Grant Bond (23-2) of Boiling Springs, in the semifinals. The third place finish matched Cline’s showing at 120 last year. Cline earned his 20th win in the third place bout to take over the lead in wins for Clearfield.
Two Bison wrestlers won their seventh place bout – sophomore Logan Gilbert at 113 and classmate Travis Ogden at 182. Both went 3-2 at the tourney, Gilbert notching his 15th win of the year, while Ogden now has 18 in his first year of varsity competition. Gilbert’s medal was his second at this tournament as he placed fifth at 106 as a freshman last year.
At 145, senior Mike Beck was the final place-winner with his eighth place finish. Beck went 3-3 at the tourney to place for the first time at New Oxford and is second on the team in wins now with 19.
Other Bison to pick up multiple wins at the tourney were Nate Lash (3-2 at 220), Josiah McClarren (2-2 at 120), Logan Puit (2-2 at 132), and Tristan Carruthers (2-2 at 160).

The Bison (7-4) will return to the mats Thursday when they host Tyrone (0-8) in the Arthur J. Weiss Gymnasium.
