FLINTON – The Curwensville Area High School girls basketball squad broke a two game losing streak Monday night with a 57-39 victory on the road against Glendale.
With eight of the nine players scoring that saw action, the Lady Tide jumped out to a 29-16 lead after the first 16 minutes.
The third quarter saw Curwensville put the game on ice as they outscored the Lady Vikings 20-11 to take a commanding 49-27 bulge into the final period.
Lady Tide head coach Rusty McCracken said afterwards, “It was nice to see almost everyone getting in on the scoring tonight. We played pretty good defense, forcing turnovers to help us eventually break open the game.”
Ciara Strickland of Curwensville was high scorer on the evening with 22 points while teammates Heather Thorp with nine and Kealy Wassil with eight helped the Lady Tide cause.
Glendale was led by Courtney McMurray with 10.
In the junior varsity contest it was the young Lady Vikings coming up with a 27-21 victory Curwensville. Shauna Guy had 10 points for the Lady Tide.
The Lady Tide are on the road Tuesday when they travel to Ridgway to challenge the Lady Elkers. The JV battle tips off at 6 pm with the varsity game to immediately follow.
Curwensville (8-4) defeated the Lady Elkers earlier in the season at home 57-20.
