Charles Norman Hicks, 90, of Grampian died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Mr. Hicks was born Sept. 13, 1923 in Falls Creek, the son of Clyde M. and Mabel (Waite) Hicks. He was a graduate of Beechwoods High School.
Mr. Hicks was a heavy equipment operator in the coal industry for 26 years, retiring as an open pit mine inspector in 1985.
He was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Grampian, as well as the Curwensville Masonic Lodge No. 480, Clearfield Shriners and the Jaffa Shrine, Altoona.
Mr. Hicks was a U.S. Marine veteran and served during World War II.
He is survived by two sons, N. Wayne Hicks and his wife, LaVeda (Markham) of Grampian and Rodney Hicks and his wife, Evelyn (Fremer) of Dublin, Calif.; four granddaughters; four grandsons; 11 great-granddaughters; two great-grandson; and three sisters, Mona Birchler of Sarasota, Fla., Olive Whiteman of Venice, Fla. and Kay Deasey of Brockport.
Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene (Britton) Hicks; a daughter, Sylvia King; two brothers, Gene and Donald Hicks; and a sister, Wilna Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mohney – Yargar Funeral Chapel Inc., DuBois with the Rev. Wade Berkey officiating. Burial will be in Beechwoods Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of services.
