DUBOIS – The DuBois City Council will join the DuBois Area School District to challenge a tax assessment appeal.
On Monday night, council held an executive session for legal purposes with City Solicitor Toni Cherry. After that council voted to authorize Cherry to challenge the tax assessment appeal initiated by Catalone Realty.
Officials from Catalone Realty purchased the former Coca-Cola plant. Further, officials have challenged Clearfield County’s assessed and market value of the property.
According to Cherry, the plant currently has a market value of $824,700 and an assessed value of $206,175 for tax purposes. Catalone Realty purchased the plant for $450,000 back in May.
Catalone is attempting to get the market value of the property recognized at $450,000, said Cherry. If successful, she said this would reduce the assessed value and in turn the tax income to the county, DuBois City and the DuBois school district.
The school district, Cherry said, had already decided to challenge the appeal.
