OSCEOLA MILLS – Work that started in June to improve the existing structure of the Osceola Mills truss bridge is continuing into winter.
The bridge spans Moshannon Creek in Osceola Mills along Route 2051 in Clearfield County and Route 3049 in Centre County. Once repairs are complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridge from its list of structurally deficient bridges and provide area drivers with safer, more efficient travel across the structure.
Work has been extended past its original late October completion date because more extensive repairs were needed than originally planned and material for those repairs required additional time for fabrication and delivery to the site.
Work that includes structural steel repairs is now expected to last through late January. Once repairs are complete, crews will then put down a roadway surface to allow area drivers to use the bridge through the winter. Should work progress allow, PennDOT will re-open the bridge earlier than late January.
The bridge was built in 1932, is 113 feet long and carries an average of 940 vehicles each day. Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion is the contractor for this $1.2 million job.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
