HARRISBURG – Over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday driving period, the Pennsylvania State Police investigated 936 accidents. Nine people were killed and 236 others were injured. This total does not include accidents investigated by local police.
The official holiday driving period was Nov. 27 through Sunday. During that time, troopers cited 1,202 individuals for not wearing seat belts and issued citations to 104 motorists for not securing children in safety seats.
Troopers also issued 7,446 speeding citations and arrested 433 operators for driving under the influence. Of the 936 accidents investigated by state police, 74 of those accidents, including one fatal accident, were alcohol-related.
Last year, 13 people died and 349 others were injured in 1,124 accidents to which state troopers responded.
The statistics cover only those accidents investigated by state police and do not include statistics on incidents to which other law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania responded.
