Las Vegas, NV, United States (NewsBahn) – A nine-year-old boy reportedly got on board a plane from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to Las Vegas last week.
Authorities are looking into the matter in which the youngster apparently had no ticket and was traveling on his own.

PDE Releases 2012-13 School Performance Profile
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Education has released the new School Performance Profile that will show the academic performance of the state’s public schools.
Today’s launch includes a profile for nearly 2,400 of Pennsylvania’s 3,000 public schools that reported accurate and timely data to the department, said Acting Secretary of Education Carolyn C. Dumaresq.
State Police Investigate Bomb Threat at Jeff Tech
WINSLOW TOWNSHIP – The investigation is continuing into a bomb threat directed toward the Jeff Tech School on Monday in Winslow Township, reported the state police at DuBois.
Project Santa 365 Celebrates 10-year Anniversary
HOUTZDALE – Project Santa 365, previously known as Project Santa, will celebrate its 10-year anniversary by adopting an entire unit that’s under the command of Clearfield native, First Lt. Justin A. Gilday.
Gilday is the son of John and Karen Gilday and a 1997 graduate of Moshannon Valley. He started his service in the delayed entry program in July of 1996 in the U.S. Air Force.
DA Announces Six Drug Arrests in DuBois City
DUBOIS – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. announced today that agents from the Office of Attorney General – Bureau of Narcotics, along with officers from the DuBois City Police Department, Clearfield County Drug Task Force and Pennsylvania State Police – Canine Unit, are in the process of arresting six suspected drug dealers as part of Operation Wrong Choice.

Shutdown Denies $100,000 Gratuity to Families of Killed Soldiers in Afghanistan

Washington, DC, United States (4E) – Families of soldiers killed in Afghanistan could not receive the $100,000 death gratuity they are entitled to because the Pentagon said the government shutdown suspended the benefit.
The gratuity was supposed to help cover the funeral expenses for slain Army Ranger Sgt. Patrick Hawkins, Private Cody Patterson, First Lt. Jennifer Moreno and Sgt. Joseph Peters and their families’ travel expenses to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to receive the coffins bearing the bodies of the troops.
VA Director Reviews Impact of Gov’t Shutdown on Veterans Services
CLEARFIELD – At yesterday’s regular meeting of the Clearfield County Commissioners, Veterans Affairs Director Betina Nicklas reviewed how the government shutdown has impacted the programs and services offered to veterans.
Over the last week, the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) relied upon carryover funding to continue during its lapse in appropriations. As of the close of business Monday, all of the VBA’s carryover funding was exhausted, said Nicklas.
Bigar: County’s Flood Damage Meets Threshold for Public Assistance
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County met its threshold for public assistance, and municipalities will get help recouping expenses due to flood damage that occurred June 27 in Sandy Township, DuBois City and the surrounding areas, reported Joe Bigar, emergency management director, at Tuesday’s commissioner’s meeting.
The president, he said, signed a disaster declaration due to the flood damage. As a result, he said municipalities became eligible for public assistance to recoup funds expended to repair the flood damage. After he’s briefed by federal and state Emergency Management Agency officials, he’ll conduct a stakeholders/applicants briefing in the DuBois area.
Williams Supports Headwaters Acid Rain Projects
DUBOIS – Williams Companies Inc. recently presented a $20,000 contribution for Clarion River watershed acid rain projects to the Headwaters Charitable Trust through their Headwaters Conservation Partnership (HCP) program.
Two Men Jailed on Drug Charges
PHILIPSBURG – Two men have been jailed after being found in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, reported the state police at Philipsburg.
Charles A. Jones, 20, of State College and Scott E. McCliment, 21, of Morrisdale have been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both are currently incarcerated at the Centre County Booking Center pending preliminary arraignment.
County Accepts $125,000 in PHARE Funds
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners voted to accept $125,000 from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) Fund and Marcellus Shale impact fees during Tuesday’s regular meeting.
The county initiated the PHARE funding request in May for blight prevention and housing rehabilitation. Its project was among those selected for funding by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and the commissioners signed the conditional award letter to accept the funds.
Charges Dismissed in Aggravated Assault Case; Commonwealth Refiles Charges
CLEARFIELD – The charges against a man accused of assaulting a state constable were dismissed by Magisterial District Judge Patrick Ford during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Rusty Alan Maines, 48, of Lanse was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief. Ford dismissed the charges against Maines at approximately 9:10 a.m., as no one was present for the commonwealth. The preliminary hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m.
Clearfield Borough Discusses Purchase of New Patrol Car
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Borough Finance Committee discussed at last night’s meeting options for the purchase of a new police patrol car. A quote was received from Dotts Motor Company for a 2013 Ford Taurus with police interceptor content, plus lights, sirens and rear partition for a state contract price of $33,990. Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott noted the preferred option of purchasing a 2014 vehicle based on additional specs from Police Chief Vincent McGinnis.
Suspect Waives Hearing in Fleeing and Eluding Case
CLEARFIELD – A man accused of leading state police on a 19.5-mile, high-speed chase waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
