BELLEFONTE – Central PA Community Action (CPCA), in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA), is pleased to offer a workshop for first-time homebuyers on Jan. 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The workshop will focus on the steps to finding, financing, and purchasing a home. CPCA is a local non-profit that has been serving the communities of Centre and Clearfield counties since 1965.
Topics covered will include saving and budgeting for homeownership, the benefits of owning, understanding & repairing credit, the mortgage process, and avoiding predatory lenders. The workshop will also provide attendees with information on mortgage products available to first-time buyers. CPCA’s housing counseling staff, as well as a representative from Jersey Shore State Bank will be available to answer any questions participants may have.
The workshop is a great opportunity to learn the basics of homeownership for anyone that is interested in purchasing a home in the current market or in the distant future. Participation in this workshop, which is certified by PHFA, fulfills requirements many lenders are now asking of borrowers. With home prices and interest rates falling, and the extension of the first-time buyers’ tax credit, now can be the perfect opportunity for many buyers to realize their dream of homeownership. The workshop may also be beneficial to those struggling with poor credit or down payment issues.
The workshop will be held at The Catholic Charities, 213 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend, and complimentary lunch will be provided. Anyone interested in attending should contact Jarod Taylor at 814-765-1551 or jtaylor@cpcaa.net.
