CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, the Clearfield County Commissioners approved a resolution to set the compensation and expenses of the DuBois City Treasurer for the collection of city, county and DuBois Area School District taxes for the next four-year cycle.
The commissioners are authorized by County Code to appoint the treasurer of DuBois City to be the tax collector for the collection of county taxes levied within it as a third-class city. The commissioners have historically utilized the DuBois City Treasurer for collection of county taxes, even though it has the option to do so through its own treasurer, County Solicitor Kim Kesner explained.
The commissioners, he said, are subjected to the condition of a maximum annual contribution to salaries, benefits, costs and expenses of the DuBois City Treasurer and its office operations and has complied with this condition for the past two four-year cycles. Further, he said the county’s contribution was not to exceed $21,948 for 2014, $22,606 in 2015, $23,284 in 2016 and $23,983 in 2017.
In other business, the commissioners approved:
- a partial release of a mortgage for the property Graystone Court conveyed to the Clearfield-Jefferson Community Mental Health Center.
- a linkage agreement between the county and Community County Services Inc.
Commissioner John A. Sobel, on behalf of the commissioners, wished a full and speedy recovery to Trooper Bradley Wilson of the DuBois-based state police. Wilson was shot and critically wounded Thursday afternoon while he and another trooper attempted to serve a search warrant due to suspected drug activity at a residence on Cemetery Hill Road just outside of Brockway. Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen added that the commissioners have kept Wilson and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
Commissioner Mark B. McCracken noted the passing of Leland B. “Bud” Mather Jr. Mather was a long-time editor of The Progress and covered Clearfield County throughout his career. McCracken added Mather attended numerous community events, knew Clearfield County very well and was an overall great individual.
