CLARION — Lock Haven grad student Jesse Hoover (Curwensville) led all receivers with seven receptions for 79 yards in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference inter-divisional game that Clarion won 30-13 at Memorial Stadium Saturday evening.
Sophomore running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) caught one pass for five yards and averaged 17.2 yards on five kickoff returns for the Bald Eagles, who are 1-1.
Sophomore long snapper Eric White (Clearfield) assisted on one tackle for the Clarion punt unit.
A crowd of 3,307 saw the Golden Eagles beat the Bald Eagles for the sixth year in a row for their first 2-0 start since 1996.
Hoover’s 13 catches in two games rank No. 7 and his 152 yards are 14th in the PSAC.
Swales has a 16.8 average for six kickoff returns.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Redshirt sophomore Derek Morgan (Clearfield) started at free safety and recorded three solo tackles and one assist as Slippery Rock turned back Shippensburg 58-38 in front of 8,735 fans at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Saturday evening.
Morgan, who had five starts in 11 games last fall, has six tackles, five of them solo, and one pass break-up for The Rock, 2-0 for the fourth time in five seasons after the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cross-over victory.

ERIE — Redshirt freshman Curtis Frye (Clearfield) took advantage of increased playing time in his second game for Millersville (0-2) Saturday, completing six of nine passes for 95 yards in the final two quarters of a 49-7 loss to host Mercyhurst.
He also gained three yards on one carry and was sacked twice for losses of eight yards in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cross-over game that attracted 1,600 fans to Tullio Field.

INDIANA — Redshirt junior Trey Campman (Clearfield) saw action at wide receiver for nationally-ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a 49-0 blowout of Cheyney at Miller Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The home opener win witnessed by 3,575 fans was the second for the Crimson Hawks and kept them ranked No. 8 in the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II Poll.

GREENVILLE — Freshman linebacker Brad Coudriet (Curwensville) made his first appearance for Thiel (0-2) and registered a tackle for the Tomcat kickoff unit in a 28-27 non-conference loss to visiting Rochester in front of 1,200 fans at Alumni Stadium Saturday afternoon.

CARLISLE — Freshman wide receiver Jordan Russell (Curwensville) was involved in two tackles on kickoffs in his first action for Juniata Saturday as the Eagles disappointed a partisan Dickinson crowd of 1,100 with a 37-14 triumph at Biddle Field.
The win gave Juniata a 2-0 start for the first time since 2002.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State senior Gwenn Porter (Clearfield) ran the 6,000-meter Blue-White Course in a personal-best 23:29 minutes at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational Saturday.
She placed 47th among the 68 NCAA Division I runners after lowering her record by almost 1½ minutes.
