CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Solid Waste Authority would like to notify Curwensville area residents that by next week the recycling drop-off boxes will be permanently removed from the Curwensville Community Center upon request of the landowner.
The recycling boxes were provided for aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, newspaper, corrugated cardboard and mixed paper. Curwensville Borough Council has offered to host the recycling boxes on a trial basis at its garage located off Susquehanna Avenue.
Residents are reminded that if the site is abused, the borough may revoke its offer, stated Jodi Brennan, CCSWA director. “We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for the public’s cooperation by adhering to the simple program rules, so that we can continue to provide these services to the Curwensville area.”
According to Brennan, only the following residential materials are accepted at the recycling boxes: aluminum and or steel cans; clear, brown or green glass bottles and jars; newspaper; corrugated cardboard; and mixed paper (i.e. junk mail, envelopes, cereal boxes, office paper, magazines, telephone directories, tissue boxes). These materials shouldn’t be left outside the recycling boxes under any circumstances; materials, such as plastics, window glass or wet paper items (i.e. milk cartons and pizza boxes) are not accepted.
“Any other materials deposited within or outside the containers only contaminates the recyclables and needlessly adds to the expense of the program and are landfilled,” explained Brennan. “Intentional misuse of the site will be considered illegal dumping and violators will be prosecuted.”
