State Police: Attempted Homicide Ends in Suicide
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP – The Rockview-based state police investigated an attempted homicide that turned into a suicide sometime between 11:50 p.m. Friday and 1:13 a.m. Saturday in Liberty Township.
CASD Approves Change Order for Replacing Pool Deck Tile
CLEARFIELD – On Monday night, the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors voted, 7-2, to approve a change order of up to $90,000 to replace tile on the Clearfield High School’s pool deck.
Board members Susan Mikesell, Dr. Michael Spencer, Mary Anne Jackson, Phil Carr, Jennifer Wallace, Tim Morgan and Larry Putt voted in favor. Board members Rick Schickling and Gail Ralston opposed the motion.
Election Office Prepares to Relocate Precincts
CLEARFIELD – Plans are proceeding to relocate two Clearfield Borough polling precincts to the Expo I Building at the Clearfield Driving Park, reported Dawn Graham, director of elections, at Tuesday’s meeting of the Clearfield County Commissioners.
DuBois Police Investigate Burglary at L.B. Toney Co.
DUBOIS – The DuBois City police have initiated an investigation into a burglary that occurred around midnight Wednesday at L.B. Toney Co. on Beaver Drive.
New York Times, Twitter Web sites Hacked, Syrian Electronic Army Suspected in Disruption

New York, NY, United States (4E) – The websites of The New York Times and Twitter were still experiencing disruption Wednesday a day after being hacked by suspected members of the obscure Syrian Electronic Army (SEA).
The hacking reportedly caused the newspaper’s website to become inaccessible or unseen to readers or show the logo of the SEA, which had hacked websites of The Washington Post, Associated Press, The Financial Times and CNN before. Twitter users also reported not seeing images on the micro blogging site.
County to Schedule Meeting with ATA
CLEARFIELD – Despite getting requested information from representatives from the Area Transportation Authority (ATA), the Clearfield County Commissioners still have many unanswered questions and remain concerned about its operations.
Accused Burglar Waives Preliminary Hearing
CLEARFIELD – A man accused of breaking into a residence and causing damage in excess of $30,000 waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Charles Edward Murphy, 19, of Seneca has been charged with burglary; criminal mischief; and criminal trespass. His bail is set at $50,000 monetary.
Obama Issues New Executive Orders to Reduce Gun Violence

Washington, DC, United States (4E) – President Barack Obama issued two new executive orders aimed at reducing gun violence Thursday.
The order requires individuals who register machine guns and short-barreled shotguns to trusts or corporations to undergo background checks. It also bans re-import of military surplus firearms to private entities, except museums, in the U.S.
DuBois Man Headed to Trial for Pulling Gun on Driver and Children
DUBOIS – A DuBois man will stand trial for pulling a gun on a driver and his children.
Scott V. Moldenhauer, 43, 12 Murtland Ave., DuBois, is charged with three counts of simple assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person and four counts of disorderly conduct and harassment. After a preliminary hearing, District Judge Patrick Ford ruled that these charges be sent on to the court of common pleas. Additional charges of terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct were dismissed. He is free on $10,000, unsecured bail.
Swales: Riverfront Redevelopment Project Gains Momentum
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Borough Riverfront Redevelopment project continues to gain momentum, and it’s evident with this week’s activity at Market Square, located along Market Street, in downtown Clearfield, according to Robert A. Swales, chief executive officer of the Clearfield County Economic Development Corp.
