CLEARFIELD – The Penn State Extension of Clearfield County has announced Victoria Garner as the 2013 recipient of the Lewie Greene Memorial 4-H Scholarship. Garner is a member of both the Clearfield County 4-H Hot Shots and the Clearfield County 4-H Teen Council. Throughout her seven-year involvement as a 4-H member, she has completed numerous 4-H projects in the areas of shotgun, photography, citizenship and leadership.
In her 4-H club, she currently resides as president of the Clearfield County 4-H Hot Shots. On the local level, she has been active in the annual 4-H club officer trainings, 4-H kick-off roller skating parties and the bi-county 4-H public speaking and presentation contest. For the past few years, she and her 4-H club have offered the firearms safety station at Clearfield County’s Progressive Agriculture Safety Day for local second grade students each September.
At state level, she has attended Pennsylvania 4-H Wildlife Field Day, Pennsylvania 4-H Capital Days and Pennsylvania State 4-H Achievement Days, where she has been competitive in the shotgun contest for the past five years. She credits 4-H with changing her life, helping her make new friends and helping her grow as a person.
Garner is a 2012 homeschool graduate and is the 19-year-old daughter of Larry and Karen Garner of LaJose. This coming fall, she will be attending DuBois Business College, pursuing an Associate’s degree in entertainment production business. Garner will be receiving a scholarship in the amount of $250.
The Lewie Greene Memorial 4-H Scholarship is open to all current Clearfield County 4-H members that have graduated high school and are entering into a two- or four-year post-high school curriculum. Applications are available at the Clearfield County Extension Office and the deadline to apply each year is Aug. 1. Greene was a 30-year leader of the Harmony 4-H Club and had a true passion to educate and help the 4-H youth understand their true potential.
