DUBOIS – At Monday night’s meeting, resident Pamela August confronted the Sandy Township Supervisors about the lack of dredging of Pentz Run for more than 30 years.
August attributed the lack of dredging and control of plants along the banks to causing the flooding at her home to be worse than it would have been. “I’ve lived in my home for 30 years, and we’ve never had flood problems,” she said.
August also inquired about removing debris that filled the run. She described utility poles and garbage that were still in the waterway. At one point, August stated the community should work together to clean up the debris and asked for a hatchet, so that she could begin the cleanup herself.
Supervisor Jim Jeffers told August that Sandy Township was aware of the issue and had cleanup plans. Before cleanup can begin, he said permits from the regulatory authorities, such as the Army Corp of Engineers and the state’s Department of Environmental Protection, were needed.
Township Manager Dick Castonguay reported that Clear Run Road has been reopened. He also reported that Old Bliss Run’s new bridge is nearing completion with guiderails being one of the final steps. The bridge’s damages, he said, were $10,000.
In other business, the supervisors:
- awarded L. B. Water Services Inc. the Denton Avenue waterline and stormwater materials bid for all 32 items. The total bid was in the amount of $29,519.
- approved reimbursing Developac for taxes paid in error. According Castonguay, the company received a notice for taxes due, and they had been paid. The company was still under KOZ status and did not need to pay the said taxes.
Supervisor Brady LaBorde was excused from the meetings.
