DUBOIS – Work to improve Route 255 near the Interstate 80 DuBois/101 interchange is continuing. When work completes in mid-October, a smoother roadway surface and new traffic signals at the I-80 ramps will provide area drivers with more efficient travel and improved traffic flow.
Work the week of July 29 will feature the following activity:
- On Monday, the contractor will be pulling the waterline along the southbound shoulder of Route 255 under the I-80 bridges. This area is three lanes and should allow for two lanes of travel. The center lane will be used for southbound traffic, and the right lane for northbound traffic, unless an unforeseen condition may occur that may require closing the center lane.
- On Tuesday, the contractor will be placing drainage behind the guide rail on Route 255 under the I-80 bridges and continue into the middle of the week. This work will require the southbound lane to be closed and traffic will use the center and northbound lane.
- Toward the end of the week, the contractor will be placing under drain along the southbound shoulder of Route 255 between Treasure Lake and DuBois. Flaggers will be in place to allow traffic to alternate through this area. Drivers should expect traffic delays. Â
Motorists should expect to encounter flaggers in the work zone and significant travel delays. Drivers should give themselves extra time to travel through the area. PennDOT reminds drivers to remain alert and proceed through the work zone with caution. Normal work hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each weekday.
Overall work on Route 255 will include milling and paving, bridge deck repair, cleaning and upgrading of pipe culverts and inlets, water-line extension, and installation of new traffic signals at the I-80 ramps.
All work is weather and schedule dependent. Work is scheduled to end by mid-October of this year. New Enterprise Stone and Lime Inc. is the contractor on this $3.4 million project.
