CURWENSVILLE – After staying with Kane the first sixteen minutes the Curwensville girls basketball team just couldn’t compete with the experience and height of the Lady Wolves in the second half.
Tuesday night’s game at Curwensville saw the Lady Wolves up their record on the year to 11-3 with a solid win over the Lady Tide, 61-29.
The Tide hung with the Wolves through most of the first period, trailing 18-10 after one as Ashley Wilson of Kane had eight points.
In the second frame Curwensville played it’s best eight minutes of the night, as Kane, at one point, stretched their lead to 22-12 only to have the Tide go on a 5-0 run to close the gap to within five. However, the visitors finished the period scoring the last four points to go into the half leading 26-17.
Lady Tide head coach Rusty McCracken said afterwards, “It’s very difficult to combat the height Kane has. They use it well to their advantage.”
All starters for Kane were listed over 5’ 7” with sophomore Drew Victory standing at 6’ 0”. Then comes freshman Kaila Jamerson off of the bench at 5’ 11”.
The second half was all Kane as they outscored the Lady Tide 35-12 to pick up win number eleven. The defeat leaves Curwensville with a 1-9 mark for the campaign.
McCracken then added, “We need to understand to get after the ball a little more. We are very young though and don’t have a lot of experience yet.”
Curwensville was led by Tess Bloom and her fourteen points. Kane was paced by Ashley Wilson , who also had 14, and Natalie Kossack with 12.
Kane also captured the junior varsity with a 55-11 victory.
The Lady Tide won’t play again until Monday when they host the Warriors of West Branch. Junior Varsity action starts at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
