CLEARFIELD – The TAGG Team Ministries and the Crossroad Youth Center will offer substance abuse awareness training. The training will feature Dr. Hallie Carlton, LPC, CAC, and will take place from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. July 17 at the youth center at 126 N. Third St., Clearfield.
The purpose of the training is to provide a “greater, more realistic awareness of the vast and concealed substance abuse problem that’s rampant among the generation of youth today.” From lead pencils to spices found in your kitchen to a soda bottle and balloon, Carlton will show how people use common everyday items to “get high.”
She will also identify what the response can be to this shocking new information. Parents, teachers, youth workers and volunteers or anyone interacting with youth and desiring to attend is invited to the free training.
Carlton has been in the human services field for more than 20 years, with a major focus on providing drug and alcohol therapy. Her work experience has been with Children and Youth Services, as a domestic violence counselor and working with adolescents in an alternative school setting.
Currently, she is the director and lead counselor for Two Roads Counseling Services, an outpatient drug and alcohol facility licensed by the state of Pennsylvania. She recently received her Doctorate degree in counseling education from Duquesne University, where her educational focus was on issues concerning drug and alcohol use, abuse and addiction.
