FRYBURG – Camo Cares is a one-day event held at the Fryburg Sportsmen’s Club in western Pennsylvania. The event raises funds to send children with life-threatening illnesses and wounded veterans on their “Hunt of a Lifetime.”
Camo Cares has become a premiere event with thousands of attendees and more than $90,000 raised last year. This year’s child is Joseph Read, who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He will be in attendance June 22. Also, Sergeant Pete Sutherland, a native of Erie, was wounded during a rescue mission in Iraq. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and has sustained permanent disabilities.
The fourth annual Camo Cares, founded by western Pennsylvania residents and co-hosts of Wired Outdoors, Jason Say and Kyle Schwabenbauer, is set for Saturday at the Fryburg Sportsman’s Club, Fryburg.
“I believe that what we are doing with these children is so special and so does anyone who has ever attended the event,” said Say. “No matter who you are, we all, in one way or another, have been touched by cancer and other diseases. What we are doing for these children, everyone can relate to and it has become very personal.”
On Saturday both of this year’s selected child and veteran will be in attendance, as well as those who have previously been supported on their “Hunts of A Lifetime” by Camo Cares. The event includes an archery shoot, raffles and three live bands – The 2 Of Us, AttaGurl Rex and Leverage.
