STATE COLLEGE – Work to rehabilitate two Centre County bridges, which began April 1, is set to finish today.
Once the bridges are re-opened to traffic, PennDOT will remove them from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Centre County and area drivers will enjoy safer, more efficient travel across modern structures.
Work began first on the Route 3011 (Houserville Road) bridge spanning Spring Creek in Houserville. In mid-April, work began on the Route 1002 (Marsh Creek Road) bridge spanning Marsh Creek near the village of Romola. Once the bridges are re-opened in mid-afternoon, PennDOT will lift the detours that have been in use for each bridge.
Work on the bridges included deck replacements, roadway paving, guide rail updates, and miscellaneous items. George S. Hann & Son Inc. of Fort Littleton has been the contractor for this $481,000, two-bridge job.
The Houserville Bridge carries an average of 1,950 vehicles each day, while the Romolo Bridge sees an average of 270 vehicles per day.
PennDOT thanks area drivers for their patience during these closures and detours and reminds drivers to obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
