STATE COLLEGE – PennDOT has partnered with the Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute at Penn State to host Innovations and New Technology Day at the university’s Test Track.
Approximately 50 vendors showcased products that could benefit roadway construction and maintenance activities. Products such as surface treatment techniques, equipment, safety products and construction materials were featured.
This first-ever Innovations and New Technology Day also featured product demonstrations and those products’ final results.
Because this one-day event is part of PennDOT’s annual Maintenance Executive Development Program, PennDOT management staff from across Pennsylvania attended the unique event. Attendees included bridge maintenance coordinators, pavement engineers, municipal services specialists, and others involved in delivering the state’s transportation projects.
“It’s great to have this kind of opportunity and we’re grateful to the Larson Institute for their assistance in staging this special event in District 2’s backyard,” said District 2 Assistant Executive for Maintenance Jim Surkovich. “Our people statewide get to see new products and applications up close and can get a better feel for how these products could help us deliver a higher level of service.”
The event underscores PennDOT’s modernization efforts through its Next Generation initiative that involves modernizing operations, expanding inter-agency efficiencies and becoming a better business partner. To learn more about Next Generation, visit www.modernDOT.pa.gov.
