Donna L. Lewis, 68, of Coalport was transported to the Altoona Hospital for a medical evaluation after a two-vehicle accident Saturday on state Route 53 in Beccaria Township. Matthew A. Queen, 22, of Irvona and Lewis were traveling southbound when Queen rear-ended Lewis’ vehicle. Lewis’ vehicle then traveled off the east berm and struck the front gate to Regal Mart. Lewis’ injuries were listed as minor; Queen wasn’t injured. Both will be cited for the accident.
No injuries were reported after an accident Friday on the Philipsburg-Bigler Highway in Boggs Township. Troy T. Danver, 20, of Mahaffey was traveling eastbound and attempted to pass a slow-moving vehicle. Upon doing so, another vehicle was traveling westbound without its headlights on. To avoid an accident, Danver exited the left-hand side of the roadway and struck several trees. His vehicle then traveled downhill into a ravine, striking an embankment. Danver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
An incident of DUI occurred Sunday on SR 53 in Morris Township. A 28-year-old Philipsburg woman was stopped for a traffic violation. Upon speaking with her, state police determined she had been consuming alcohol, and she subsequently failed field sobriety testing. She was placed under arrest for suspected DUI and transported to the Clearfield barracks for a legal breath sample. The breath test revealed the woman had a blood-alcohol content of .15 percent. Charges of DUI and related summary offenses are pending through the district court in Kylertown.
An incident of burglary occurred at a vacant, two-story farmhouse on Philips Avenue sometime between May 1 and Saturday in Woodward Township. During the crime, a Whirlpool washer and dryer and a gas range were taken from the farmhouse. In addition, numerous windows were broken out, and it appeared the suspect(s) had been staying at the residence for a period of time. A while, Chevrolet pick-up was seen at the residence approximately two weeks ago, and there was evidence they parked behind the house to avoid detection.
